Surinamese International Art Fair

I’ve had the honor to showcase my paintings in the Surinamese International Art Fair (SIAF) in 2022. This art fair gives advanced and beginning artists the opportunity to showcase their more recent visual artwork to the Surinamese/Carribean public.

I presented a three part series surrounding the theme of Kaseko music. Kaseko music is a traditional Surinamese jazz music that my grandfather, Eddy Vervuurt, composed.

Kaseko Series 2

Kaseko Series 3
Acrylic on Canvas
100 x 100cm

In my childhood, dance and party was tradition. For every occassion, there was music, there was dance, and there was food. This was our holy trinity. And Kaseko was closely intertwined.

Kaseko played an important role in my family; my grandfather Eddy Vervuurt not only composed it, but also was the first person to record and market this genre to the world. With his expertise in music and business, Suriname was put on the map.

This three part series is to celebrate Kaseko and immortalized those childhood moments. I want the viewer to experience what I experienced in my childhood and while listening to Kaseko. A colorful, loud, and hot mess of a time. There is no room for negativity, just pure elation.
